The Lisska Center staff assists students and alumni in identifying and applying for nationally competitive fellowships at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

These external awards, such as the Rhodes, Fulbright, Goldwater, and Gilman scholarships, among many others, fund a wide array of opportunities such as undergraduate or postgraduate tuition, experience abroad, or research. Some fellowship applications require an institutional endorsement and may have a minimum GPA requirement, while many do not. All interested students are encouraged to schedule an individual consultation and/or attend information sessions.

Each year, the Lisska Center staff helps hundreds of applicants identify appropriate opportunities and prepare their application materials, working closely with students on their application essays. While all fellowships are competitive, the Lisska Center works to ensure that the application process is personally and academically beneficial. Students applying for fellowships are intensively coached on personal reflection, persuasive writing for a wide audience, and interview skills. Fellowships have early deadlines, and often there are internal deadlines, so it’s never too early to schedule an advising appointment. In addition to individual consultations, the Lisska Center also visits Advising Circles and meets with departments and student groups to discuss fellowship opportunities.
